“Get Your Paws on The Sims™ 2 Pets Expansion Pack!
Create the perfect pet for your Sims to train, play with, and love throughout a lifetime. Pick everything from their paws to their personality. Choose from dozens of popular dog and cat breeds like Schnauzer and Siamese. Or create a unique cat or dog by modifying their features and body type. Your Sims can teach their pets tricks, take them for a romp in the park to meet other furry friends, or buy them toys, beds, and much more. But pets have minds of their own-so expect the unexpected!”

The Sims 2: Pets is the fourth expansion pack in The Sims 2 series of games, as well as a stand-alone game for several consoles. The Sims 2: Pets was officially announced on July 26, 2006 and released on October 18, 2006 in North America and via digital download, as well as on October 20, 2006 to the rest of the world, except for Australia/New Zealand, where it was released on October 26, 2006.The Mac version was released on November 7, 2006.

about_sims2_petsIt was released for the Wii on June 12, 2007.

The Sims 2: Pets has sold over 6 million copies.

In Australia, one Australian dollar per game sold, from at least 50,000 copies of the game, was donated to the RSPCA.

Unlike the other expansions, we did not gain a new neighborhood but Sims can now own cats and dogs…. Add dogs, cats, birds, or womrats (kind of guinea pigs) to your Sims family. Whether it is kids cuddling kittens, adults watching TV with a drowsy Calico, or elders spending a sunny day in the park with their faithful German Shepherd, your Sims will share a lifetime of special moments with their pets.

Pets expansion features 75 pre-made breeds of dogs and thirty pre-made breeds of cats. In Create-a-Pet, you can customize a cat or dog by choosing patterns and colors of coat, body shape, facial structure, and personality, which determines playfulness, neatness, loyalty, aggressiveness, and intelligence.

Pets have motives similar to the Sims except for the “Environment” motive which has been replaced by “Scratching” for cats and “Chewing” for dogs.

Sims may also train their pets to do various tricks.

Pets can have jobs and a choice of three career paths: Security, Showbiz and Services.

Pets have three life stages: Puppy/Kitten (which lasts four days), Adult (which lasts 25 days for cats & small dogs; 21 days for large dogs), and Elder (which lasts 5–10 days).

Pets are able to breed. The maximum number of pets in a household is six. A litter consists of 1-4 puppies or kittens. The number of puppies or kittens is dependent on the number of Sims and pets currently in the house. Players can play with up to eight Sims or six pets at one time, although one can only have a total of ten Sims and pets in a household altogether.

Dog digging in sims 2With vampires in Nightlife, zombies from the beginning of the series, and now we have werewolves! To become a werewolf, a Sim must build up a relationship with a wolf that has glowing eyes (the werewolf pack leader). The pack leader will eventually bite the Sim it was interacting with, causing it to become a werewolf. Once a Sim has become a werewolf they may bite another Sim to turn them into a werewolf.

Werewolves are not featured on the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, GameCube or Wii versions.

The womrat is a replacement for the Guinea Pig in The Sims 1 game. Its new cage prevents it from biting or escaping. The womrat cannot be sold back to any Sim pet store, and has to be set free instead. If you want to avoid grumpy Sims, do not keep the womrat in the bedroom as the womrat will be running on its wheel and squeaking and will wake Sims up…

I was never a big fan of The Sims™ 2 Pets Expansion Pack.  Although Pets are cute, they can be quite an annoyance.  They dig holes anywhere, pee anywhere, scratch the furniture…
My daughter loved Pets, all her Sims families had some and she loved to breed them. Though I did have a cat and a dog for my Lara Croft… But I like my Sims to have a bird because a Sim will actually gain Charisma points – somewhat quickly, and gain a Social meter boost and Fun…  And to avoid the neighborhood’s dogs digging holes I had to put fences around my Sim’s houses.
